MEETING MINUTES SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS PLANNING SUBCOMMITTEE Date: June 13, 2017 Meeting Held: Road Commission for Oakland County Traffic Operations Center, 1200 N. Telegraph Rd., Bldg. 49W, Pontiac, MI 48340
Agenda for July 14, 2017 Coordinating Committee Meeting
The April 14 Coordinating Committee meeting may include a discussion of freeway operations led by Sarah Gill from the Michigan Department of Transportation, and a review of and recommendations for a new Regional Concept of Transportation Operations by Chris Williams from SEMCOG. Carl Berry from DADA will comment on traffic issues in Detroit impacting special events at Cobo Center. Ahmad Jawad from the Road Commission for Oakland County will outline the progress of the Oakland County Connected Vehicle Task Force. Move Over Michigan will discuss the progress in getting public awareness of the move over law. Gus Serratos from MDOT will outline lessons learned from the discussions between auto suppliers and first responders about connected vehicle technology. Angie Kremer from MDOT may provide an update statewide traffic incident management efforts.
Partnering Workshop for 2018
The consensus of the committee was that Macomb County would be a good candidate to host the 2018 Traffic Incident Management Workshop in early March. County Executive Mark Hackel has indicated that he would be willing to be part of the program. He is proud of the accomplishments of the COMTEC center which brings together the Department of Roads, the Sheriff Dispatch, Emergency Management, and Information Technology. A panel discussion about shared operations with Roads, Sheriff, and Emergency Management would yield some insights about how the departments support each other. A presentation from Sterling Heights Police or Clinton Township Police might reinforce the value of shared resources. A presentation from a community using Opticom for fire service response may help carry the theme of connected vehicles as a benefit to first responders. A facilitated tabletop discussion could be a valuable part of the program. Macomb County Community College may be an appropriate site for this workshop. Angie Kremer from MDOT may have some suggestions about topics of interest to fire service. The Macomb Traffic Safety Association may want to participate in the organization of this workshop.
Traffic Operations Center Improvements
Ahmad Jawad provided brief tour and description of the upgrades to the Road Commission for Oakland County Traffic Operations. There are now 60 video cameras available a key Oakland County locations, and RCOC staff use these cameras to respond to traffic operations issues as they arise. The video images are shared with appropriate partners, but they are not retained in storage.
